SOUTH JUNIOR CHAMPIONSHIP

The South of Scotland Junior Championships were held at Colvend Golf Club on Thursday 11 July in glorious sunny weather.  The course was in immaculate condition, presented to encourage good scoring., and the 21 boys did not disappoint.

In the morning David McCreadie (Newton Stewart) led the way with a par 69 closely followed by Conor Harkness (D&G) and Rory Brunton (Portpatrick) with 71’s. One stroke behind were Matthew McCulloch (Portpatrick) and Andrew Kennedy (D&G).

David McCreadie set the early target of 142 in the afternoon with a 73. Conor Harkness and Andrew Kennedy evaporated quickly in the heat but Rory Brunton continued the fight to finish with a 75. Matthew McCulloch finished strongly to post a 70 giving him a total of 142 and the prospect of a play-off over 3 holes. David won the shoot out by 1 stroke and was duly crowned the champion for 2013.
