SHAMASH TROPHY 2018

On Sunday 23 September thirteen local golfers and Graham Guthrie from Maldon, Essex gathered at Kirkcudbright Golf Club to compete for the Shamash Trophy. On a typical autumn day with the course in superb condition low scoring was expected and the players did not disappoint.

In the morning round, Graham Guthrie returning to the course he knew from his childhood, returned a score of 68 with three birdies and one bogey in his outward nine of two under par 33 and one birdie and two bogies coming home for a one over par of 35. David Brodie (Newton Stewart) shot two halves of 36 and 34 for a total of 70 to keep in touch and one shot further back was youngster Iain Rae (Dalbeattie) with an excellent 71.

Andrew Kerr (Crichton) had a very good outward nine of 34, one under par, but lost his way on the inward nine with a four over 38 for a total of 72.

In the afternoon Colin Hamilton (Stranraer) produced the best round of the day with a 67 but his morning round of 78 ruined his chances of taking home the silverware. Iain Rae lost two shots in the first two holes and was out in 37 but then dropped five shots coming home to be round in 76, seven over par.

Andrew Kerr kept the momentum going from his morning round and signed for a one over par 70, 35 out, 35 in. The ever consistent David Brodie had a go to catch Graham Guthrie with a two under par outward nine of 33 but coming back was one over and had to settle for 68.

Graham Guthrie had three birdies and two bogeys in his first nine to be out in 34 and his back nine of 35, with a birdie at the last was just enough to give him the title by one shot.
