Over 100 delegates gathered from the SGU, the 16 Areas and some golf clubs at the SGU Annual Conference/AGM over the weekend 25/26 January in Stirling to reflect the theme of working together.
Time was spent discussing factors contributing to the decline in club membership including changes in consumer and social behaviour and how to counter them. Interactive sessions and case studies exploring best practice in golf clubs provided an insight into changes required. There would appear to be no magic formula for reversing the trend for every golf club but the SGU will undertake further research over the next few weeks among club managers, club members and casual golfers looking at what the golf consumer wants from a club.
At the AGM, Jim Burns, presently the SGU Delegate from South Area, was elected SGU Junior Vice President. Jim is congratulated on his election and takes with him the best wishes of all in South golf for a successful term in office.
