SOUTH OF SCOTLAND BOYS GOLF – PEAT SALVER
Om Wednesday 16 July the three County teams of Dumfriesshire, Kirkcudbrightshire and Wigtownshire met at Portpatrick Dunskey Golf Club to compete for the Peat Salver. The course was in excellent condition for the three teams of eight players under 18 who set out in wet weather to play the morning foursomes. By lunch Wigtownshire had 3½ points from their four pairings, Dumfriesshire 1½ and Kirkcudbrightshire 1 point. The weather for the afternoon singles matches had turned to bright sunshine and the wind dropped to a light breeze. Wigtownshire showed their complete mastery of the changing weather conditions and their dominance of the competition by winning six of their eight matches to give them an unassailable total of 9½ points to retain the trophy. Dumfriesshire finished on 4½ and Kirkcudbrightshire 4 points. Next Thursday (24 July) the three Counties meet again at Kirkcudbright Golf Club to determine the stroke play champions.
The victorious Wigtownshire team was Aaron Coulter, Shaun McCulloch, Gary Dewar, Robert Hughan, Graeme Hoodless, Robbie Smith, Fraser Hughes and Lewis McColm
