The South sent a fairly strong team of eight boys to compete in the Northern Counties Federation Championships at Morpeth Golf Club on Sunday 30 June. The par 71 course was in good condition but the boys had to contend with a strong cross wind on a very tight tree lined layout. This proved too difficult for most of them with only Alex Chalk (D&G) managing to break eighty in both rounds. He had an excellent score of 149, 76 in the morning and 73 in the afternoon. Conor Harkness (D&G) had a 78 in the morning but joined the rest of the team and failed to break 80 in the afternoon. All the others had scores of over 80 in the morning and afternoon. The team of Robert Hughan (Newton Stewart), Darren Burgess (D&G), David McCreadie (Newton Stewart), Conor Harkness (D&G), Duncan Samson (Lochmaben), Kyran Jackson (Lockerbie), Alex Chalk (D&G) and Fraser Hughes (Newton Stewart) were disappointed but resolved to do better next year when the Championships are held in the South of Scotland
