ORDER OF MERIT

The 2018 Order of Merit has been a two horse race from the first weeks of the season between Douglas Borland (Southerness) and David Brodie (Newton Stewart). As the season progressed Douglas has always maintained a slender lead until the last competition, the Shamash Trophy at Kirkcudbright on Sunday 23 September, when David finished higher up the leaderboard and gained enough points to overtake Douglas and retain his title by thirty points. Andrew Kerr (Crichton) also had a strong finish in the Shamash Trophy which lifted him up to a tie for third place with Mike Grunwell…

ORDER OF MERIT – UPDATE 4

The results from the Douglas Maxwell Memorial Trophy on 2 September have again opened up the race for the Order of Merit 2018. David Brodie (Newton Stewart) had a run-away victory by 7 shots after a marvellous second round of 64 to win the trophy and gain maximum points. Michael Grunwell (D&G), who finished second on Sunday, is coming with a…

ORDER OF MERIT – UPDATE 3

Douglas Borland (Southerness) took advantage of the unavailability of David Brodie (Newton Stewart) to increase his lead in the Order of Merit table at the South Match Play Championships at Powfoot on Sunday 26 August. He won in style and now leads David by 120 points. Clark Riddick (Southerness), Mike Grunwell (D&G) and Chris Corbett (D&G) of the chasing pack also played well and closed the gap on David but it looks now as if Douglas can only lose the title with three counting events to go. The next event is the Maxwell Trophy at Kirkcudbright on…

ORDER OF MERIT – UPDATE 2

The South of Scotland Championship on Sunday 19 August failed to provide a clear leader of the 2018 Order of Merit. Douglas Borland (Southerness) still holds a slender advantage over David Brodie (Newton Stewart) who closed the gap slightly with his seventh place to Douglas’s equal eighth. Only Douglas is playing in the Match Play competition so the pressure is on him to gain a significant number of points and increase his lead. The South Championship was settled in a play-off between Gary Morrison (D&C) and Ben Irving (D&C) with Gary taking the honours. Both won their…
