Two boys travelled to Bedale Golf Club in North Yorkshire on Tuesday 7 April to represent the South of Scotland Juniors in the Northern Counties U16/U15/U14 Select against their counterparts from Yorkshire, one of England’s strongest Counties. Bedale Golf Club is a picturesque tree lined course set in the Yorkshire Dales and proved a stern test for all the boys.
In the morning foursomes William Squires (Kirkcudbright) and his partner fought well but lost 3 and 1 while Cameron Gray (Kirkcudbright) unfortunately did not gel with his partner and lost by 5 and 4.
In the afternoon singles William played very well but was beaten by 2 and 1 to a better opponent. Cameron also played well but tired towards the end and lost 3 and 1. The match result was Yorkshire 13 games NCF Select 3
For William, who was born and bred in Yorkshire before moving north, this was a special day as he met and played against two old school friends. Both the South boys thoroughly enjoyed the experience and the long journey home was spent in silence as they slept after their exertions of the day.
