The South of Scotland Junior Order of Merit reaches its climax on Friday 17 October with the last counting event the Southerness Jamboree at Southerness Golf Club . Points have been gained by the top five finishers in the Junior Open Competitions at Dumfries & Galloway, Dumfries & County, Lochmaben, Kirkudbright and the South of Scotland Championships at Newton Stewart in the two age groups of Under 16 and Under 14.
In the Under 16 section there is a very close race. Rowan Marchbank (D & G) is leading on 125 points, closely followed by Angus Bendall (Castle Douglas) on 110, Nathan Watson (Kirkcudbright) on 103 and William Squires (Kirkcudbright) on 95. As Rowan is unfortunately away on holiday it will be interesting to see if any of the other three can overtake him and claim the title.
The Under 14 section is more clear cut as Cameron Gray (Kirkcudbright) already has an unassailable lead with 225 points, having scored heavily in all the previous events. Lying in second place is Finlay Copeland (D & G) with 145 points followed by Corey Brown (D & C) with 105.
It looks like it could be a good year for the boys from Kirkcudbrightshire.
The competition at Southerness is open to boys and girls and late entries will be accepted by contacting Iain Robin (tel 01387 252004) or turning up on the day. The first tee off is 10.am.
