The South of Scotland Golfers Association Junior Order of Merit 2016 got off to a wet and windy start at Dumfries and County Golf Club on Sunday 1st May. With the course in great condition the juniors only had to battle the weather to post good scores. County member Lewis Fraser came out on top with a nett 68 to lead the handicap order of merit from Dumfries and Galloway’s Fraser McFadyen. Fellow County member Dylan Cairnie took the scratch competition with a gross 74 with last years under 18 scratch order of merit winner Nathan Watson from Kirkcudbright one shot behind him. Completing a hat trick for the County boys David Sharp leads the under 15 scratch with a gross 81. Young Ellie Harkness has started 2016 the way she finished last season with a convincing victory and 50 points in the girl’s competition with Katie Malcolm from Dumfries and County taking second spot. The next order of merit competition is the Longden Quaich at Castle Douglas Golf Club on Saturday 4th June. With all the junior open competitions in the region included in the order of merit, providing 15 competitors play, this year’s competition should be very interesting.
