CONGRATULATIONS TO TAYLOR KERR

Thornhill Golf Club has produced a junior golfer to follow in the footsteps of internationalist Andrew Coltart in sixteen-year-old Taylor Kerr. He has been selected to represent Scottish Schools in the annual match against English Schools at Lancaster Golf Club on Monday 10 September. This is a marvellous honour for Taylor and well deserved. Taylor attends Sanquhar Academy, is Junior Captain at Thornhill Golf Club and has a plus 1 handicap. NCF v DURHAM (away)

The Junior team crossed the Pennines for the second time in a week, this time to play Durham Juniors on Friday 27 July at Tyneside Golf Club. The day was warm but overcast with the threat of thunderstorms all day. The tree lined course was undulating with bone hard fairways and greens, a challenge the South boys were getting used to this summer. NORTHERN COUNTIES JUNIOR LEAGUE – CUMBRIA v SOUTH OF SCOTLAND

On Sunday 25 June 2018 the South team travelled to Cockermouth for the return match against Cumbria. A lovely summer’s day with a light breeze had enveloped the foothills of the Lake District and the course was like concrete and the greens similar and bumpy. A day where the team which made the fewer mistakes would come out on top. SCOTTISH GOLF LIMITED : FORUM WORKING GROUP

Forum Working Group At the end of December The Chair of the SGL requested names to be forwarded to take part in a Forum Working Group.  This group was expected to meet in January through February in order to bring a plan for Forums to the AGM in March.  This did not happen. However, a group of 23 people have now been asked to be in this working group and, at present, a date in late March is being sought, for as many as possible of this group to attend in order to hold an initial meeting.…

JUNIOR ORDER OF MERIT

The Junior Order of Merit Competition came to a conclusion for 2017 with the results from the Junior Jamboree on Friday 27 October. Points are gained by competing and finishing high up the leaderboard in the Junior Open Competitions at Clubs throughout the Area during the season. This is a good way for boys and girls to experience playing on other courses and furthers their development. Nathan Watson, (Kirkcudbright) and Iain Rae (Dalbeattie) at university in Edinburgh and Angus Bendall (Castle Douglas) at college in Gloucester returned home to enjoy their last event as South juniors in the Junior Jamboree at Southerness on Friday 27 October. They had all represented South Juniors for the last 5 years, firstly as young naïve nervous youngsters, and latterly as fine upstanding young adults with a love and aptitude for the game of golf. MEETING WITH CLUBS RE SGL DRAFT STRATEGY

At The Executive Meeting on Tuesday 26 September it was agreed to have another meeting with the Clubs prior to the SGL Special General Meeting on Saturday 2 December to ascertain their thoughts and voting intentions. The papers for the Special General Meeting must be received by the stakeholders by Saturday 11 November and this gives us 3 weeks to hold the meeting. SCOTTISH AREA TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP

The premier Scottish team championship was held at Newmachar Golf Club, Aberdeenshire from 8 to 10 September 2017. The format for the sixteen teams was 36 holes strokeplay on Friday with the top eight teams qualifying for the matchplay stages on Saturday and Sunday. On the Friday each member of the six man team had to play 18 holes over the Hawkshill Course and 18 holes over the Swaillend Course with the 5 best scores from each course counting to the team total.
