The South team travelled north to Ayr Seafield this year for the annual friendly match for the President’s Pewter on Sunday 31 March. On a lovely spring day, four youths (U23), four boys aged Under 18 and four boys aged Under 16 from each Area comprised the two teams. SCOTTISH BOYS OPEN CHAMPIONSHIP

The Scottish Boys Open Championship was held at West Kilbride, Ayrshire from 10 – 12 April 2019 and attracted boys under 18 years of age from all over Europe. The South of Scotland was represented by Taylor Kerr (Thornhill)).Taylor produced a very steady first round of one under par 70 with birdies at 3 and 18 and a dropped shot at 15 and was lying tied eighth. SCOTTISH JUNIOR TOUR EVENT

Three boys and two girls competed in the first of the season’s Junior Tour Events at Southerness on Saturday 6 April. On a lovely spring day the course was in good condition with firm fast greens. In the very competitive Under 18 category, Taylor Kerr (Thornhill) was leading after the first round with a super round of one over par 70 but unfortunately could not maintain his momentum in the afternoon and had to sign for 74. For the last match of the 2018 season in the Northern Counties Federation League, South Juniors were able to field a very experienced team against Durham Juniors at Lochmaben on Thursday 9 August. Three of the boys were playing their last game for the juniors, being too old next year, and were determined a victory was essential. On Monday 23 July 2018 an inexperienced South junior team played a Northern Counties League match against Northumberland Juniors at Bedlingtonshire Golf Club. The undulating, tree lined course was in superb condition with hard, fast fairways and greens and the weather was sunny and very hot. David Sharp (D&C) and Kaleb Johnston (Portpatrick) got off to a fine start in the morning foursomes and were one up after four holes. NCF CHAMPIONSHIPS

An eight-man team from each of the four competing Counties, Cumbria, Durham, Northumberland and South of Scotland contested their championship at Powfoot Golf Club on Wednesday 1 August. The format was the best six scores from the morning round and the afternoon round with the lowest aggregate determining the winners. After the recent rains the course was in immaculate condition with the greens true and fast. The weather was a strong breeze from the south in the morning accompanied by heavy rain in the afternoon. On Thursday 26 July 2018, 6-man teams of juniors representing Dumfriesshire, Kirkcudbrightshire and Wigtownshire gathered at a sunny Kirkcudbright Golf Course for their annual competition for the Fraser Shield. The format was to be scratch stroke play with the best four scores from each County to count towards the team total. The team with the lowest total would be the winners. Eight boys from the Stroke Play Championship qualified for the Match Play Championship and returned to Lockerbie Golf Club on Thursday 19 July. In the First Round Mitchell Cowie (D&C) beat Glen Irvine (D&G) by 4 & 3 and in a very tight game Ciaran Howat (D&C) just triumphed over Callum McMillan by one hole.
