The final coaching session of the winter was competition day for the elite junior golfers in the South. Junior Winter Coaching 2016 – 2017

On a fairly mild but dreich winter’s day on Saturday 18 February, one girl and sixteen boys gathered at Brighouse Bay for the third Performance Coaching Day of the winter. Under the supervision of PGA Professionals Chris Robinson and David Broadfoot the group ignored the weather conditions and showed commitment and an eagerness to learn. JUNIOR PERFORMANCE DAY 2

Sixteen of our regions best young golfers attended the second performance squad coaching day at Brighouse Bay recently. PGA professionals Chris Robinson and David Broadfoot had set up a distance control and yardage assessment for the morning session. This required players to hit shots to six random targets inside 100yards and again to 120, 150, 175 and 200 yards. With the use of trackman technology the results were indisputable. The first Performance Day of winter for the South of Scotland Junior Elite Squad was held at Brighouse Bay on Saturday 29 October in misty and damp conditions with no wind. Under the tutelage of PGA Professionals, Chris Robinson and David Broadfoot fourteen boys enjoyed a day of instruction and assessment. In the morning the boys played a stroke play competition over 11 holes while Chris and David assessed their strengths and weaknesses, course management and attitude. The final winter coaching session took place at Brighouse Bay Development Centre on a beautiful but cold windy day on Saturday 5 March 2016 under the tutelage of professional golfers Chris Robinson and David Broadfoot. Sixteen aspiring young golfers attended to improve their techniques and course management skills. After they had warmed up on the driving range the first lesson was aimed at controlling the trajectory of the golf ball when pitching to a green over various distances and the accuracy was measured using Trackman technology. Fourteen juniors returned to Brighouse Golf Development Centre on a beautiful but cold winter’s day on Saturday 27 February for their fourth coaching session with regular professionals Chris Robinson and David Broadfoot. The aim of the day was to improve their pitching and chipping techniques which had been identified as a weakness in all the boys’ games at previous sessions. JUNIOR COACHING

Fourteen boys, all under 18 years of age attended the first of the winter coaching days at a cold and windy Brighouse Bay Development Centre on Sunday 25 October. These boys will form the basis of the South Junior team for next season to take part in Scottish Golf and Northern Counties Federation events. The players all have single figure handicaps and the emphasis is not to improve their golf swing but to improve their course management, shot/club selection, nutrition, fitness, performance and team work, and ultimately their handicap and enjoyment of the game.
