2017 OOM UPDATE 1

Competition for the top of the leaderboard really took a massive step forward following the results of the Sutherland Chalice on Sunday 9 July at Dumfries and Galloway Golf Club.

Chris Corbet (D&G) won with a birdie at the first extra hole after a tie on 142 with David Brodie (Newton Stewart) and Dylan Cairnie (D&C). This moved Chris up from 6th position to second behind the ever-young Michael Grunwell (D&G) who retained the lead, but only just.

David Brodie (Newton Stewart), last year’s winner, is regaining his consistency and his second place finish moved him up 3 places to 4th. The young Dylan Cairnie (D&C), who was a regular in the Junior team only two years ago, is starting to fulfil his potential. He entered the leaderboard at joint 17th position.

Others who took a big step forward were Andrew Kerr (Crichton), up six places to number 7 and Liam Carruthers (Powfoot), up fourteen places to 9th.

It is good to see the younger players are starting to believe in themselves and hold their own in competition with the old guard. The next two events are the MacRobert Salver at Stranraer on Saturday 22 July and the Brotherston Trophy at Dumfries and County on Sunday 23 July and even this early in the season the results could go a long way to establishing a healthy lead.
