An exciting Order of Merit competition to find the most consistent golfer in South Area in 2016 came to an end at Portpatrick on Sunday 25 September 2016. David Brodie (Newton Stewart), who collected points in eleven of the twelve events, was a very deserved winner. He led from the front from the first event and never relinquished his position although it came under fierce and concerted attack on several occasions. The Shamash Trophy, the last 36 hole competition of the 2016 season, took place at Portpatrick Dunskey Golf Club on Sunday 25 September on an autumnal day with winds rising to 25 mph from the west. The course was in superb condition and with the weather conditions provided a stern test for the 31 best golfers in South Area. After his win in the Lennox Trophy at Lochmaben on Saturday 10 September, David Brodie (Newton Stewart) has consolidated his lead in the South of Scotland Order of Merit 2016. With only one competition to go, the Shamash Trophy at Portpatrick on Sunday 25 September, David has a lead of 114.7 points over Michael Grunwell (D&G) in second place. The Scottish Area Team Championship was held at the Marriott Dalmahoy Hotel and Country Club over the weekend Friday 2 to Sunday 4 September 2016. This is one of Scottish Golf’s annual flagship events and attracts many of the leading male amateur players in the country.
