ORDER OF MERIT UPDATE 28 AUG 2016

Following the South of Scotland Championships at Southerness on Sunday 21 August, David Brodie (Newton Stewart) retained his position at the top of the leader board and Michael Grunwell (D&G) leap frogged over Chris Corbett (D&G) back into second place. Liam Johnston, the new South Champion, made the greatest leap forward by entering the table in 9th place but as he has not entered the Match Play Championship any further influence on the final result seems unlikely. Andrew Kerr (Crichton), in 11th place, also entered the table for the first time with his two consistent rounds on…

SOUTH OF SCOTLAND CHAMPIONSHIP

At a dry but very windy Southerness Golf Club on Sunday 21 August 2016, fifty nine of the Area’s top golfers set out to be the South of Scotland Champion for 2016. The course was in super condition and the sun beat down from a cloudless sky as the top game in the morning foursomes hit off up the hill at the first hole. This promised to be a cracking game between four boys all playing well. Angus Bendall (Castle Douglas) and Callum McMillan (Kirkcudbright) fought all the way but eventually had to concede defeat to…

SOUTH JUNIORS v DURHAM JUNIORS

This was the last match of the season for the South Juniors in the Northern Counties League. Durham Juniors were the visitors to Thornhill Golf Club on Friday 12 August on a damp and cloudy day with the threat of heavy rain not far away. The course was in very good condition although both teams found the greens on the slow side. Two of the South boys, Rowan Marchbank and Greg Rice, were making their last appearance as next year they would be overage, and were determined to help produce a positive result. Callum McMillan (Kirkcudbright) and…
