JUNIOR COACHING

Fourteen boys, all under 18 years of age attended the first of the winter coaching days at a cold and windy Brighouse Bay Development Centre on Sunday 25 October. These boys will form the basis of the South Junior team for next season to take part in Scottish Golf and Northern Counties Federation events. The players all have single figure handicaps and the emphasis is not to improve their golf swing but to improve their course management, shot/club selection, nutrition, fitness, performance and team work, and ultimately their handicap and enjoyment of the game. JUNIOR ORDER OF MERIT 2015

The last competition of this year’s junior order of merit was held recently at Southerness Golf Club.  With a good field of competitors and a strong wind blowing there were still lots of points up for grabs. Young Ellie Harkness braved the elements and all the boys to take 50 points in the girl’s competition and win the girls handicap order of merit trophy. JUNIOR JAMBOREE

On a dry, cloudy day with a cold strong south west wind 19 boys and one girl competed in the South Junior Jamboree at Southerness Golf Club on Friday 23 October. The course was in immaculate condition with true fast greens and in conjunction with the weather conditions a daunting challenge for the final competition of the year. PEAT SALVER

PEAT SALVER This competition for the Peat Salver is between 8 man teams from Dumfriesshire, Kirkcudbrightshire and Wigtownshire and the final match between Dumfriesshire and Kirkcudbrightshire was played at Dumfries & Galloway Golf Club on Sunday 11 October. Both Counties had already beaten Wigtownshire so the winners would be the team to take home the trophy. On a cool, dull, dry and windless day with the course in excellent condition despite recent winter maintenance work on the greens the two equally balanced teams set off to battle for supremacy. JAMES ERSKINE SOUTH OF SCOTLAND ORDER OF MERIT 2015

The James Erskine South of Scotland Order of Merit reached its conclusion at the last of the eleven counting events at the Shamash Trophy at Brighouse Bay on Sunday 20 September. Martim McNae (Lochmaben), by virtue of his second place finish (after a 3 hole play-off), consolidated his lead to win his first Order of Merit title.
