SOUTH MATCH PLAY CHAMPIONSHIP 2015

The South of Scotland Match Play Championship was played at Powfoot Golf Club over the weekend of 22/23 August. The course was again in immaculate condition for both days and the weather for Saturday was overcast and calm. Sunday was the warmest day of the year but accompanied by a stiff breeze in the morning which increased in the afternoon for the final. NCF SOUTH JUNIORS v CUMBRIA JUNIORS

This was the last league match of the season and to date the South had won 4 and drawn 1. If they won or drew against Cumbria they would be crowned Northern Counties Federation League winners for 2015. At Powfoot Golf Club on Monday 17 August the eight boys were up for it, determined and fully focussed as they set off for the morning foursomes.  It was a warm sunny summer’s day and the course was in superb condition with running fairways and fast receptive greens. SOUTH OF SCOTLAND CHAMPIONSHIP

On a beautiful summer’s day on Sunday 16 August 70 players (including 13 Juniors), gathered at Powfoot Golf Club to compete for the South of Scotland Championship. The course was in superb condition with fast receptive greens; just what the golfers wanted to determine their champion for 2015. Right from the start a clutch of players returned scores equalling and bettering the par of 71. SOUTH OF SCOTLAND SENIOR CHAMPIONSHIP 2015

Wednesday 5 August was the turn of Stranraer Golf Club to play host to the senior golfers of the region as the South Seniors Championship was battled out over the well prepared Creachmore links. On a day when waterproof manufacturers were tested to the limit 25 brave souls ventured out on to the fairways in an endeavour to win the Senior title. NCF CUMBRIA v SOUTH JUNIORS

The South Juniors travelled to Carlisle on Thursday 13 August 2015 to play Cumbria Juniors at Stony Holme Golf Course full of confidence after their three victories out of three matches in the Northern Counties League. It was a beautiful summer’s day with a warm sun shining out of a cloudless sky. The course was in good condition but the greens were to prove to be slow and inconsistent. The weather forecast for Wednesday 5 August was for heavy rain and thunderstorms for the match against Durham at Dumfries & Galloway Golf Club but thankfully these did not materialise in Dumfries and the day turned out mild with sunny intervals. The course was in super condition with very receptive greens and the South team were confident of their third win in a row.
