The South used this match at Cockermouth Golf Club on Tuesday 28 July to blood some youngsters with more established team members. The Cockermouth golf course sits in the foothills of the Cumbria Mountains 3 miles above the town and has fantastic views of Scafell Pike, Skiddaw and Bassenthwaite Lake. Lying in the Lake District National Park one of the conditions is that there are no sand bunkers, only grass. NCF Northumberland v SOUTH

On Monday 27 July the South Juniors travelled to Linden Hall Golf and Country Club, Morpeth, to play the return fixture in the Northern Counties Federation League against Northumberland Juniors. The boys were in confident mood having narrowly won the first match at Dumfries & County a fortnight earlier. Junior 3 COUNTIES (FRASER SHIELD)

This annual stroke play team competition between the three counties of Dumfriesshire, Kirkcudbrightshire and Wigtownshire took place at Kirkcudbright Golf Club on Thursday 23 July. The weather was sunny intervals with a strong breeze from the south west which was helpful on the front nine and into their faces on the way home.   A good mixture of talented young lions and established junior team members had qualified for the first round of the Match Play Championship at Lochmaben Golf Club on Thursday 16 July. The South Junior team recorded their first win in their first match of the season in the Northern Counties League against Northumberland after a titanic struggle. On Thursday 9 July, twenty two of the best boy golfers in the area turned up at Lochmaben Golf Club to compete in the 36 hole annual championships. On a beautiful summer’s day with only a slight breeze and on a course in exceptional condition the boys could not believe their good luck and knew that there would be no excuses for poor scores. The results from the early season local open competitions are showing a similarity to last year. The early leaders in the James Erskine South of Scotland Golf Order of Merit are again Martin McNae (Lochmaben) and David Brodie (Wigtown & Bladnoch) who have started strongly and already opened up a considerable advantage over their competitors.
